Leaves simple, elliptic-oblong, margin repand to wavy, dark green above. Inflorescence peduncled cymes. Flower actinomorphic, purple-mauve. Calyx lobes acute, prickly. Corolla lobes ovate to triangular. Anther yellow. Fruit a berry, globose, yellow.

Medicinal Value
It has expectorant, digestive and diuretic properties. Locally some herbalists use infusion of whole plant in epilepsy, dropsy and typhoid. Berries are used for toothache and sore throat.
