A perennial herb with adventitious root up to 80cm tall, found in sub-tropical and temperate zones.
Taxonomic Features
Leaves simple, ovate-elliptic, entire with tapering base. Inflorescence a dense spike,5-20 cm long. Sepals elliptic. Corolla greenish-yellowish white. Fruit a capsule, globose. Seed dark brown.

Medicinal Value
Leaves treat urinary infection, burns, bee stings, hemorrhoids and conjunctivitis. Detoxifying tea is used for treating tubercular ulcers and diarrhea. Locally it is used as astringent and painkiller, also useful in piles, crushed leaves are used to stop bleeding and treatment of insects bites.
